Lady Bison Sports "Athletes - of - the - Week"
ladybisonsports.org
Present ~
Each week, more or less, when schools are in session, The Progress daily newspaper & Jim's Sports Center
team up to confer the "Athlete-of-the-Week" honor on a pair of kids, one boy & one girl, from "Progressland."
When a Lady Bison Athlete is chosen we post it here as well. I've tried to accumulate all of them from
the very beginning. I think we have them all now, but let me know if there are any we've missed.

The context: As I'm sure most visitors to this site are aware, Derek & Sloan are
husband and wife and both are on the faculty at Clearfield Junior-Senior High School.
Derek was formerly the Lady Bison Softball Head Coach and Sloan was formerly
LB Volleyball Head Coach. This was Derek's only appearance as "Athlete-of-the-Week"
while Sloan was featured five times, three times for Volleyball and twice for Softball.
Her five times to be so honored seems to be the most appearances by any one
athlete. Her younger sister Leann Bell was also honored twice.
The above entry is from Spring 2008 when Derek was playing Baseball at
C.H.S. and Sloan was a Softball standout at West Branch.
Small world we have going here.

83 ~
The resaon there are 83 honors among 82 awards is because Allison Shipley
was simultaneously honored for her accomplishments in two sports in the
same season; Golf & Soccer during the Fall 2021 sports season.
For ten years the only Lady Bison to have been honored twice was
B.J. Bowman (CHS '12) in '09 for Soccer and in '12 for Softball. She
was joined by Emma Hipps (CHS '22) in '18 for Soccer and '21 for Softball,
Allison Shipley (CHS '22) in '21 for Golf & Soccer, Elle Smith (CHS '23) for Soccer in '19 & '22 and Hailey Miles (CHS '26) for Golf in '24' & '25.
Anyone who has ever seen any of these girls play knows very well why.
