With their season about three-quarters complete the Lady Bison took the opportunity to invite
their Little League softball counterparts up to the B.S.C. to show them how the big girls do it. And
with a 16-0, 3 Inning, perfectly pitched win there couldn't have been a better example of "how to do it".
( A lot more pictures of the Little Leaguers by Val are over on her Facebook page )
( I think maybe those couple of "submitted" pictures above are Val's too )

Some background ~
Clearfield Little League Softball began in 2013 under the leadership of CHS coaches Bobby
Lewis and Fred Redden with the help of Todd Vanderburgh and Jeff Kavelak and with
many parents and Lady Bison players assisting in various capacities.

That first year there were four teams - forty-nine girls - growing to eleven teams the next
year and twenty-five the year after that, representing five area school districts. In 2016 an
All-Star team took fourth in the State Championship in Plains (Wilkes-Barre) and second
in the State at the same tournament in 2017, this time at Benzinger Park in Saint Marys.

Good finishes in Little League tournaments were satisfying and encouraging but Bob & Fred
had bigger things in mind. They were thinking the efforts would pay off in High
School competition. That vision was rewarded with the Lady Bison winning the 2022
State PIAA-4A Championship, though both men had by that time moved on.
That State Championship High School team was pretty much made up of the same
players as the team that had done so well at Plains & St. Marys several years earlier,
and many of them were girls who had also played in that inaugural year.
And they were using a lot of the skills they had learned in Little League.

We don't know if this year's Lady Bison players have spotted that championship spark among
their young proteges just as we didn't know back in 2013 who would emerge from that group.
Here's a look at some of the kids who played in that inaugural year.

I remember the announcer making the point that this was Clearfield's
first appearance at the State level and that this was a team that
he was sure "would be back".  And they were - the very next year.
