legs out a victory in the 1600-meter run at the District 9 Class AAA Track and Field Championships on Wednesday. Porter's time of 5:26.44 was almost 10 seconds better than the runner-up, and it clinched a spot in the state championships next weekend.

At Shippensburg ( State Competition ) :
Porter was making her second trip as a participant in the 1600, and finished five seconds off her season best of 5:26, (and) hung with the pack through the first 400 meters, but the group began to gradually pull away. Porter finished 13th in her heat with a time of 5:31.40.  "Last year, it was all new to me, just getting the feel of what the competition is," Porter said. "It definitely helped me. I wasn't as nervous, but I was still pretty nervous. "I had a strategy coming in, but I don't know that it worked. I just wanted to stay with the pack."
